I broke the machine, and it was fixed quite easily by IBM, over the phone. In truth, had I not putzed around with the list and tried suggestions so I could save a few bucks, if I had instead immediately went to IBM, it would have been done Friday. Try screwing up your registry in Windows and calling Microsoft. See what they say about restoring. Try trashing your Oracle database and see how you can restore. No, I'm very happy with what happened. The upgrade should have gone smoother, but it didn't. Tehre's a good chance I broke it by not following the instructions. There's also a chance that the instructions were easy to misread. Those things happen occasionally. But since I'm one of the only people on this list who had a problem going to V5R1, I'd say I'm a relatively rare case. Even so, even after I smoked my operating system to the point of unusabilty, the machine is robust enough that Rochester was able to get me up and running inside of eight hours, with no loss of data and no need to reload from backups. I can't really see anything wrong with this picture Leif. I guess you and I just see the platform a little differently. Joe
