Karl,

I can think of no sound basis for applying such a rule of thumb to all
iSeries sizing situations. Your application mix will determine the
appropriate balance. For instance, an application suite which does all
I/O through a client/server model will need considerably more batch
capability than a suite which uses I/O within the programs.

It is an absurd assertion when proposed as a generality, although it may
apply to one particular group of applications.

If you're not in a hurry, waiting for promotions may be a good idea. If
you are in a hurry, it might not hurt to dig out the old invoices for
your 500 and 510. Even with the Enterprise package, you will find that
you are spending considerably less. And remember that you can transfer
your software licenses to the new machine.

Regards,
Andy Nolen-Parkhouse
