Dear iSeries400 Professional,

Insider Weekly has uncovered the inside story on the imminent iSeries 400
server announcement - even before IBM's ready to tell you. It's the biggest
iSeries 400 hardware news this year. As an iSeries 400 professional, I'm
giving you an inside peek at this exclusive news you won't find anywhere
else. Enjoy!

Editor,
Insider Weekly

Rochester will announce the four newest members of the iSeries line -
including the long-awaited Regatta hardware on the low end - and all
customers are in for big changes.

On January 20, IBM will unveil the details of the biggest iSeries hardware
announcement of the year, the new iSeries 800, i810, i825, and i870
servers, to its customers. On January 7, Big Blue made the announcement to
IBM'ers and business partners at eServer University, says internal IBM
documentation obtained by the Insider.

Interactive fees eliminated: IBM will also announce that maximum 5250
Interactive CPW will come at no charge in most of the new configurations.
This action reflects IBM's success with GreenStreak, which pushed hardware
sales without the burden of the interactive tax (IW 11/25/02).

"This confirms that GreenStreak was just an early pricing test to see if
this restructuring would fly," says an Insider source close to IBM.

However, IBM has discarded the name "5250 Interactive," which carried a
negative connotation in recent years, and will call the capability "5250
On-Line Transaction Processing" (OLTP). IBM defines 5250 OLTP as "any task
that uses a 5250 Data Stream."

"This is an attempt to take the focus off the fact that IBM charged for
5250 Interactive for so long," says an Insider source.

Good news: If your existing box has 5250 Interactive CPW, it can only
upgrade into a server with the Enterprise Package that includes maximum
5250 OLTP CPW.
