Let me put it this way - in the past 3 years I've seen 30+ 8.58Gb 10k RPM drives fail (and heard many many worse stories than the ones I have). It wouldn't surprise me. Quality has improved dramatically, either through better drives or more accepting microcode parms. Do let us know what it was. I'm no CE, and I can't examine the machine, but I still have my bet on the new drive being bad, assuming that all procedures and processes are being completed in the correct fashion, which is how it sounds so far. Did the box it came in say "servicable used part"? jch -----Original Message----- From: Oludare [mailto:oludare@ix.netcom.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 01, 2003 12:19 PM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: Re: V5R1M0 9406-270 (Failed 9Gig Raided disk) Thanks Philipp, in fact I did just that yesterday but I have bring the system up yet and maybe not until tomorrow. Justin: Do you mean by saying "I'd put my money....", that the old disk and the new one are both bad?
