IIRC, one kind of printing sends the overlays/fonts/document once, and it's stored at the printer (IPDS). LPR/LPD printing (remote outqs AND DEVDs, I think) have to send the whole thing, even for multiple copies. This takes up more bandwidth. Could be mixed up on specifics, but general idea is valid. I haven't looked - does the Performance Capabilities manual discuss this?
