My humanities classes taught me "neither a lender nor a borrower be" because
it ruins relationships.
My finance classes taught me taught me not to be the borrower because it
costs you a fortune, unless you're a business which can use the debt as an
expense in order to lower taxable income. With the exception of the house,
that doesn't work for individuals. And is the tax break worth the hundreds
of thousands of dollars extra paid on a home loan?
My philosophy classes taught me debt is a form of enslavement.
My accounting classes taught me debits are good, credits are bad.
My law classes taught me there's no such thing as a free lunch.

I say get rid of the car and truck (replace them with jallopies if need be)
or get them paid off quickly, then use the money you were paying on the cars
to fund the education. Don't borrow. And don't use credit cards unless you
pay them off 100% each month.

That's the advice I wish someone had given me when I started college. It
took me awhile to get out of the hole I dug myself.

Phil
