Booth, I'll jump in here with one possible answer. I was seriously looking
at a 270 to do the new stuff that IBM have introduced: HTML server, Servlet
engine (Tomcat/WebSphere), LPAR. Almost all of these require dedicated
access to the machine (imagine trying to take a production machine down to
tinker with multi-homing, or to put on a PTF because the Integrated xSeries
card went casters-up!)

In addition, any sort of testing for multiple security schemes is just about
impossible without *SECOFR access to the box. iSeries Navigator is tough to
use to it's fullest potential, and performance management (profiling a
program, etc.) is nearly impossible without dedicated access. I also like
to tinker with MI...

Even here at work, it's not like I can tell the other 40+ folks that I want
the machine down for a bit so I can tinker some new thing or another. It's
another weekend for me; but I have to schedule around our REAL system
admin's chores like PTFs and various backups. Sigh.

A dedicated box would be so nice, but it isn't going to happen for me.
