Perhaps we should all agree to the increase (like we have a choice <G>) only
if IBM agrees that all increased revenue from the leases go directly to
marketing campaigns that clearly indicate the existence of an iSeries. One
of two things would happen,

1) Increased market awareness of iSeries (unlikely)
2) No increase in lease rate since IBM is unwilling to market the machine
(likely) <G>

If IBM were smart enough to do a loss leader, then they would be smart
enough to advertise the best platform in the world. Anyone with an IQ high
enough that it gets larger when you square it would clearly see that!

Joe, obviously I don't speak for IBM legal, but a lease is a binding
contract so I think they'd have a hard time changing the exiting ones. If
they can do that, maybe I'll change my lease to .05% per month on my own.
<G> Never the less, the notice after the fact doesn't exactly give us time
to react and get new leases in before the increase.

Al, hasn't IBM ever heard of a loss-leader? IBM SHOULD loose money on the
development machines, it's the ISVs out there that write the software the
IBM needs to have in the market so they can sell the big machines that they
make lots of money on.

Perhaps it's reaonable, Al, but it nearly doubles my fixed costs, pushing me
even closer to the edge. No early termination is also a nasty little
change.

Does it affect existing leases, or only new ones? If only new ones, it's
more palatable. If it changes existing leases, this sort of decision,
without any warning, shows a complete lack or regard for the small
developer.
