As overseers of the technological assets, we are responsible for protecting those resources, not just the iSeries (and other servers). That is why a layered approach to security is necessary. The firewall is just one element of a solid, layered security strategy. Protect the server, protect the communications, protect the network and protect the enterprise. If all your assets can be used by the public, than security steps, such as a firewall, is not necessary. It's all a matter of what, when and where protection is needed.
