Alister--

I have been on System 38/400/i-series platform since 1983 ( My God, that's
almost 20 years, isn't it?) and have never had hardware or OS related data
corruption. I was working for a ski resort back in the '80's that was
running a S/38 and experienced some problems when they fired up their
electric snowmaking compressors, causing a voltage drop that caused a
couple of 3370 disk drives (remember them?) to act up As a result, we had
a handful of damaged program objects that we had to restore from tape, but
no data file corruption.

I hope your friend is able to shout down the boneheaded MS or Mac people
that say otherwise. I'd like for them to provide concrete examples of when
they think this has happened. My guess is that they wont because they
can't.
