(For v4r5 at least) its the parameter following LANATTACH (You may need to
hit F10 to be sure all parameters are displayed.

>From what I've gathered this printer is currently configured as a 3812? You
can't do AFP printing with a 3812. The 3812 is a generic ASCII printer, and
the system will treat anything defined as 3812 as just that, a generic ASCII
printer. To do AFP printing (i.e. barcodes), the printer *MUST* support
*IPDS or *AFPDS.

We are using both IBM infoprints and HP 405X series lasers here, all of them
lan attached, and IPDS enabled. A typical configuration command is:

CRTDEVPRT DEVD(TEST) DEVCLS(*LAN) TYPE(*IPDS) MODEL(0) LANATTACH(*IP)
AFP(*YES) PORT(9100) FONT(11) RMTLOCNAME('1.1.1.1')

For most of the printers I've seen, the only thing that'll need changed in
the above is the PORT parameter (check the printer docs) and the RMTLOCNAME.

However, this is all assuming this printer supports AFP printing at all. If
it was
initially configured as a 3812, then it really may only be useable as an
ASCII printer. If you are unsure it supports IPDS, check the docs, or the
manufacturer's website. If it doesn't mention it, it probably doesn't
support it.

Good Luck.

P.S. As one of the other posts said, you can get IPDS cards for some other
printers, HP being a good example, but be warned, if you use one in an HP,
make sure it has plenty of RAM.

Question on Advance Printer Function....

When I display the printer device description, I can see Advanced printer
function *NO, but when I try to change or create a new device, it's not
being listed as an entry that can be changed to *YES. Is this an internal
value being captured when the device is created from a system value or
something?
