We have noticed the same thing. However I have seen four ways IBM tried to get my attention: 1) The 'Degraded' status on WRKDSKSTS, although only after pressing F11 2) A problem entry created with src 27408008 3) A message in QSYSOPR indicating that I had better contact my service provider *NOW*. 4) The same message in QSYSMSG. This seems like enough but I would think that at least the messages to QSYSOPR and QSYSMSG should repeat at some interval. The problem is indeed the battery for the RAM cache. I'm not so sure it's actually bad either, it may be just too old. I took one of mine off and measured the voltage. Right up there. So I discharged it fully. Recharged it. Re-installed it. Problem solved. (No that machine is NOT on maintenance :-) ) - Larry Bob Larkin wrote: > We noticed on 2 170s that the disk status was listed as "Degraded".
