I have 6 3590-E1As in a 3494, on B11 that just converted to E11, Another B11 to convert when our BP straightens out the paperwork. You did not mention what type of media you are using (J or K cartridges). You should not see a difference between IBM and Imation for K tapes. Why? Because Imation makes IBM's tapes. Although it may not be related to your situation, the K tapes do not tolerate rough handling. If they are transported, they must be in good containers, like a Turtle Case. IBM recommend plaing the Turtle Case in an overpack container, also available from the makers of the Turtle case. With J tapes, you can kick them around the datacenter, and they still work. Drop a K tape from 3 feet, and it may be ruined. Bob "Harry D.
