Chris,

What WRKDBF does (and what you can do in your app.) is to check for
character values less than hex'40'. These tend to conflict with screen
attributes and frequently crash the display. If a character is is found
that is less than hex'40', WRKDBF writes out a "box" character to the
display instead. I don't have WRKDBF source available to me right this
minute so I can't tell you what the hex value is for the "box". But I'll
check it tonight and let you know tomorrow.

Bill

Subject: Invalid screen characters

On writing a screen from a COBOL program I get the following message after
the
program crashes:

Data sent to device QPADEV0005 not valid. Negative response code is
  10050111.

I have fields which contain characters that are not displayable - How can I
avoid this error ? -
Is there some keyword I can code into the screen DDS to allow these
characters
to be displayed

(the same data file containing these characters does not crash
when accessed via WRKDBF)
