Excuse me my stupidity, but I really do not see the point ??? On any system (iSeries, Windows, Unix, name your own choice) once you know which system module performs, say authority checking, one can patch the module to always pass the authority check - and voila! - system will allow everything to everybody. So from this point of view no system in the world is protected. Of course, if instructions to do this are lying around and you can do the patching work without authority, then it's trouble ... If you locate the SLIC module that performs this (again, as others have stated, it's all documented in Leif's book [www.iseries400.org]) make the change, the processor & disks go active for a few minutes and then the system runs 'unprotected...' --phil [ Deleted uuencoded file 'winmail.dat' ] _______________________________________________ This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/cgi-bin/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@midrange.com Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
