Before going too far with this, you might want to see if maybe your HLL has native support for data areas. I know that RPG does.... but you didn't say which language the HLL program is written in. If you do need to use the CHGDTAARA command, I'd certainly recommend using QCMDEXC. It will be slightly faster, since QCMDEXC will run your command at the same call-level as your program, whereas calling a CL program will need to make a new call level for the CL program. Plus, in my opinion it's MUCH easier to read your program if you use QCMDEXC. You can see exactly what the program is doing, in-line, rather than have to deal with a separate source member, and having to figure out what affect library list, activation group, call level, etc will have on the command... it's just MUCH simpler, and MUCH more elegant.
