You mentioned that you need the function of an actual device description. This can be had with remote outqs by creating a virtual device with the same name as the remote outq. Just never vary the device on! A couple of tricks to this. The remote outq needs to be created in the same library as all the other outqs. When you manually create the *VRT printer device, an error message comes up saying the outq is already created. Ignore it. Now you can print directly to the device name and the output will be sent through the rmtoutq.
