I have experienced this problem w/ many UNIX networks. When the client
attaches to port 23 of the telnet server, it tries to do a DNS lookup
for the client's IP address to get a hostname. If the DNS is
misconfigured, it will take up to 5 minutes for it to time out. If
you have a DNS server up, but the IP -> name map isnt in the list,
it can take about 30seconds for it to time out.
