Buck Calabro's notes and my comments:
Spooky. Does the back overlay print or is it missing?
-- Overlay prints. We used to dedicate a printer drawer to it
   (purchase order legal statement).

Does the printer work if you power it off/on?
-- Just tried this & it does work but we are a virtually operatorless shop.
But it beats ending subsystem QSPL.

Does it get better if you end/restart the writer?
-- Just ending and restarting writer does not cause duplex to work.

o Check to see that you're on the latest PTF level.
-- We are on latest cume on AS/400. Not sure on printer microcode.

o In the past, I've had unusual things happen when I
try to use an AFP resource that isn't in the library list.
-- We moved all *OVL to QGPL and it still happens

o Are you printing to a PRTWTR or a RMTWTR?
A PRTWTR (attached to a device) is usually well behaved.
-- Network printers (remote)

Thanks for the suggestions,
Bonnie
