This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. The client got the machine from one
of their customers, and bought the Ethernet card used, so it did not come
with doc. But I thought that was the case. Thanks again.

Hi Carl,
In a model 600 this situation is easy:
you got only one position to put a 2838 (high speed LAN IOA), this is
the most downward position labeled C01.
In addition you need to have the MFIOP type 2809 installed in slot C03
which controls slots C01/C02 and C04/C05 if there is no IPCS card
installed in that machine. Otherwise slots C04/C05 are controlled by
the IPCS card (usually a 2851 in a model 600).
So the picture should look like this:

C11
:
C07 \ IPCS
C06 / IPCS
C05 PCI Slot (LAN / WAN IOA) <----|
C06 PCI Slot (LAN / WAN IOA) <----|
C03 LAN/WAN/Twinax IOP # 2809 --------|
C02 Tape Controller # 2729 <----|
C01 10/100 MBit Ethernet # 2838 <----|

HTH, good luck !

Regards from germany, Philipp Rusch
