  • Subject: Tools, packages, software...

I was wondering what shops normally have in regards to packages or tools; what is considered essential and helpful to programmer and business productivity. I am in a fairly staid environment. My employer recently merged with a company which has a bottom-line philosophy to every capital outlay. For example, we were supposed to migrate to JD Edwards One World, but they nixed that. A recent question on JDELIST.Com, asked, what report writing tools do you use elicited a large response. I had nothing to say as we use nothing. What I'm really trying to do is to make my work more interesting by learning and using new tools, packages, or products, and hopefully, increase productivity. Has anyone been in a similar type of company and been able to do what I am trying to accomplish?

Appreciate any input,

Phil Kestenbaum
