Eons ago in the old Punched Card Era when the only people who could afford 
computer printers were our employers who sometimes did not pay close 
attention to what we doing, there was some deliberate fold spindle mutilate 
(I have seen some great Christmas decorations constructed out of old punched 
cards) & other playful activities like constructing large characters composed 
of repeating smaller characters like

      A
    A A
   AAAA
 A    A
A      A

And depending on what font this is replicated in, you cannot do justice to it 
today.
