Also, get a hub that supports a modem and then you can dial in or out from
anywhere, and even put your AS/400 on the internet if you want to.  Carl
suggested the Bandit RAS which I've delivered and it works nicely, but its
slow.  I suspect the slowness is a setting I don't understand.

Prices on Ethernet hubs have come WAY down.  We just bought a 5 port 10mhz
hub for only $30 at our local CompUSA.  It was a "no-name" brand, but it
does work.

You might want to invest in a HUB.  Fairly cheap ones can be found via the
internet or your local store.  That way if more that one device or a
printer are going to be attached via ethernet, your already set up.  I
would guess your cable is the source of the problem.  We are assuming that
the line is configured etc, and TCP/IP is set up.
