Dear Lurton,

I noticed that one person passed on a number of useful hints to you. One
other thing to remember on a printer that is shared across multiple hosts is
that the network interface for the printer (internal or external
multi-protocol print server) can only be conversing with one host at a time.
The hope is that the printer will be so fast that it will be available most
of the time to speak with any of the hosts that normally send it work.

When the printer is busy receiving information from one host, it will tell
all others to try back again shortly. If the printer remains busy with
another host for too long, the AS/400 will time out and issue the error
message you have described. The timer on the AS/400 can be adjusted with a
system command. Some useful information that can help you to diagnose
probable causes for receiving this error message can be found on the web
site http://www.as400service.ibm.com. Choose Tech Info & Databases from the
left hand list of choices and then Software Knowledge Base and Print. Under
Network Attached Printers - *LAN Device Descriptions select the document
titled "Configuration Settings and Error Messages for *LAN 3812 PJL Device
Descriptions"

HTH

Best Regards,

/Paul

Subject: IP printing

We have a strange IP printing situation that just started after we went to
V4R4. We have IP (device described) printers that all also shared on an NT
network. They time out with a CPD337F Message . . . . : Remote device
rejected an attempt by the writer to open a connection.

Any ideas?
