Went through all the replies from the list - thanks so much to all of you for your help. I am really struggling here. On the AS/400, Ping 127.0.0.1 worked but Ping to anything else didn't work. So, as Jim suggested, I looked on the back to see if the green light was on on the AS/400 Ethernet card. Well, what a surprise, there was no cable for the network attached to the Ethernet card!! This definitely explains my problem with TCP/IP... Found a network guy and got him to find me a cable to the network. Plugged it into the Ethernet card at the back of the AS/400, and now I have another problem. The card on the back of the AS/400 with flashing lights (green & amber) is labelled 2724 and is for Token Ring. It has no cable plugged into it because we don't want to use Token-Ring. However, the card labelled 2838 for Ethernet has the Ethernet cable in it, but no flashing lights. The network guy here tells me this means that there is power in the AS/400 going to the Token Ring card instead of to the Ethernet card. Is this correct? How can I fix it?
