I shouldn't have used the word "stigma". However I have yet to be in a shop that allows programmers to decide to create a logical file. In every instance it is decided after discussion, and it decided by bosses. My only reason for suggesting the RPG solution originally is because it is so easy and so efficient. _______________________ Booth Martin boothm@earth.goddard.edu http://www.spy.net/~booth _______________________ "Sam Kanakanui" <kanakanuis@mindspring.com> Sent by: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com 12/16/1999 08:27 AM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L To: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> cc: Subject: RE: file merge dilemma I did mean using SELECT in the DDS. As far as a stigma, it really depends on who you speak with. I think if done correctly, doing this type of selection at the micro code level (in DB2) is more efficient. Also, this LF I am thinking of will be used in multiple programs so it is not a single purpose need.
