Let's see... if you are using DB2 V5 and up, you just hand it the file
handle. The system does the rest.

On OS/400, you can use a locator and id the file. The file is then tracked
by the system without really moving the data. Locators only exist for the
transaction.

On OS/400, you can use a DataLink to manipulate the data also.  This is a
URL or path and file name that is used to id the LOB and move it at the
appropriate times. Look at the DLVALUE function for more information.
DataLinks are explained in the DB2 UDB for AS400 Programming Guide, about
page 180.
