Basically, the range is around 300 feet.  Also you need to take into
consideration the number of connections made on any wire.
A wire with just two connections (one at the phone jack and one
at the patch panel) would be best, and you could get the most range
out of it.

If you had one with a number of connections (one from patch panel to
punch down block, then to another punch down block then to the
phone jack, total of 4) you might not get quite the range.  Each connection
looses something too.
