validity checking on date input fields -- MIDRANGE-L

Hi,

How does one go about validating user input into a date field?

I tried to use the validity checking that is a part of SDA but

that cannot be used with date fields. I want to force the user

to enter something into the date fields and I would like to make sure

that it is a date other then D'0001-01-01'. How can I do this?
