The AS400 could be connect to two separate hubs using two separate
communications cards on two separate busses. Each LAN can have identical
hardware and unique IP address. I have a 24/7 shop here with two AS400
locally and one in a remote DR site. We mirror all critical applications
and data file between all three systems. Our DR site also takes live
transactions by having ATT split traffic between sites. What single point
of failure were you referring to? The hubs or the routers? They can be
duplicated and used for splitting traffic. If you only use half the ports
on a hub or switch, just a matter of plugging the PC from the failed hub to
a working one. Just food for thought. I would like to know what solution
you do come up with, just to satisfy my curiosity.

Chris,

Thank You for the response, and yes this might be a solution. But
because of the nature of the business this adds another failure point to the
network and therefore is not a good solution for THIS customer. I am still
looking for the answer for this client.
