I took the path from Burroughs B1900 Junior Operator at 18, to God-like AS/400 RPG programmer today. Learning to program is the easy bit, applying the programming logic to business requirements is the hard bit. -----Original Message----- From: PaulMmn [mailto:PaulMmn@ix.netcom.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 1956 2:26 AM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: Re: Growing your own programmers >Allen, Mark wrote: >> >> Would appreciate any input from companies and/or individuals who have taken >> "non-programmers" and through in house training/external....snip A 'logical' path would be from System Operator to Programmer Trainee to Jr Programmer to God-like programmer. (: We've used this path several times with great success. Unfortunately, there were a number of others who wanted to take that path who were not given the opportunity (depending on the head of the department at the time), and who are now working at other companies as programmers. --Paul E Musselman PaulMmn@ix.netcom.com +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
