I have done that very thing at several locations. I have NEVER been
disappointed. The reason I do it, is that someone did the same thing for
me 19 years ago. I guess I like to pay back the favor.

I don't feel that the people who I brought up were insecure or thought
themselves incapable of progressing past the job they were in. They were
people, like myself, who had never considered programming as an interest.
Once they caught the 'fire', they turned into some of the finest
programmers I have ever worked with. The only programmers I have been real
disappointed in were ones who majored in CS at college, because they felt
that was where the money was. They don't have the fire. They just want
the funds. They seldom develop the heart or imagination to do a real good
job.

But, that is just my opinion.

> Would appreciate any input from companies and/or individuals who have
taken "non-programmers" and through in house training/external training
converted them to AS/400 RPG programmers. I am considering starting a
program here to do that and would like all the "experts" out there who
may have done something similar to share their experiences.
