Interesting stuff here. Kinda reminds me of that wonderful book, The Psychology Of Computer Programming. Personally, my regret was that I did not take an interest in computing prior to reaching 20 years old. I ended up with an associates degree when I should have had more guts and went for the 4 year comp. science degree. At 37, I don't feel limited, knowledge wise, but the 4 year science degree would have opened more doors and allowed me to view some problems differently. But---I must say that IMHO, the degree is *somewhat* meaningless when it comes to the ole noggin'. It was said & I'll repeat the idea: Some can do it and some can't (NO MATTER THE DEGREE). I worked with a guy who was a super intelligent person (high IQ that is) with the paper on the wall. True, he was the best I ever saw when ask, "What's your thoughts on this issue?" His first answer was always one that made me say to myself, "Hmmm...damn...that's a neat idea." But from that initial point on, his logic went South. He absolutely could not grasp the big picture. Anyhow, I come from a music background. Outsiders have told me that the music, i.e., artistic side helps the programming side, but I don't know. I still like the idea of calling it a science along with a big helping of pragmatics (where there is no science).
