I have always made it part of any upgrade I've done, to permanently apply
the previous release's PTF.

It can free up a significant amount of disk space. You will have to manually
delete any PTF *SAVF's out
of library QGPL too....

The installation manual indicates that the PTF's for a pervious release are
overwritten by the installation process though.

You should review page 20 of the V4 Software Installation Manual
(Sc41-5120-02).
