Did? Past tense? :) Wow, I had no idea this abomination of source management was gone........ This is the single greatest cause of grief in my life because my manager starts foaming at the mouth whenever I start talking about fixing some of the legacy code that I don't like. Boss: "Does it work?" :/ Me: "Well, yes, but this program is leaving data in file xxx that's never being purged." :( Boss: "So what? If it ain't broke (blah blah blah)" :o Sometimes bugs that have existed since day one are identified, but because they've been there forever, they aren't bugs any more, rather "undocumented features" and should be left alone until someone reports a problem.. AAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Of course, _I_ can't report problems like this, and the users were trained to "ignore that" whenever they saw it. Who's left to report it as a problem? gasp! eric.delong@pmsi-services.com ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: RE: "RPG isn't cool" Author: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > at INET_WACO Date: 5/12/99 7:40 PM It will have the same effect over time that the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mind set did. (The effect being having a machine full of 20 yr techniques.) 1. Bug reported or enhancement asked for 2. CVTRPGSRC member 3. Fix bug, make enhancement 4. Test, Compile into production 5. Goto step 1 (or Iterate) This will mean that I will never touch RPGIII again, and After a week (try me out here) I will wonder why I was so stupid as to be afraid in the first place.
