Thanks for the responses on the question. The file is used to be a trigger bucket between 6 and 8 digit date versions of a file. Re-using deleting records puts the arrivals out of sync. However we now re-org the file twice a day and all is ok at the moment. It is strange though the way the programs acted. I mean you'd think that when you do a read on the file, regardless of how many deleted records there were, it would signal EOF. Well it's live and learn time.
