Scott -

We have had an issue with space for some time. We brought our system from
close to 95% down to 76%. Hope the steps we had to use help you.

We constantly monitor/clear the outqs. One thing to watch is how long you
keep the QEZJOBLOG. If you have your system set up to log every job, that
will fill FAST.

Do you have any way to purge old data off of your system? We have to purge
our sales file every month. We leave 18 months active and the rest is
archived off. You would be amazed how seldom we are asked to bring old
data back.

Look at your files. Are there any that have a lot of deleted records?
Reorgs can bring back a lot of space.

Reclaim storage can help if your system hasn't had it done in a long time,
but it didn't really give us anything. Do this after you complete any
purges or library removals.

IPL your system. There are IBM cleanup functions which only occur during
an IPL.

Check DLO. We don't use the word processing here, but had a problem at a
previous location. Lots of usage means lots of space.

Delete the QHST* files. We keep a couple days worth, unless space starts
up again.

Check to verify that you don't have duplicates of files in assorted (such
as developer) libraries.

Take all past programmer/developer libraries. Combine the source into
multiple members in one library. Delete the old libraries. One library
with multiple source files takes up less space then multiple libraries with
single source files.

Removing observablity from programs where you KNOW that you have all of the
source. You lose the ability to do debug and the system won't tell you
what line a program blows on. If it is a stable library and you are
certain that you have all of the source for upgrade purposes this can gain
a lot of space for you. It could be good for packages such as Hawkeye or
DBU.

Apply PTFs permenantly, than have IBM talk you through the removal of PTF
objects.

These are the only steps we can remember. There was soooo much. If you
get any other ideas, please pass them on. I am always looking for new
clean up paths.
