Who knows what the final request will look like?  For now the request is
to view/update a table.  However, I can see it quickly evolving to
processing orders.

What does "accessing data" mean to them?  would this be for updating?
getting data for spreadsheets? moving data to another software
database?  Will someone be filling orders with the data? doing invoicing?
loading a Lotus Notes data base?  There are many ways to use AS/400
data.
