The AS/400 command has two optional files. They are called INPUT and OUTPUT.
The purpose of INPUT is to send a series of FTP subcommands. Here is an email
I keep around:

Does anyone have some clues as to how to do FTP with the AS/400 in batch?

You build a database file containing the commands that you want to have
ftp execute, or use SEU to build a source file with those commands. (It
doesn't matter whether you use a *SRC or *DATA file.) You override the
default input using OVRDBF (think "pipe") like

OVRDBF FILE(INPUT) TOFILE(MYLIB/MYFTPCMD)

and then start the transfer like

FTP RMTSYS('ftp.apple.com')

and then clear the overrride when the transfer is done.

You can also put the password next to the user ID separated by a space
in the command file like "JOEUSER JOES4PW", which will automate your
last step, with the drawback of having a plaintext password kicking
around in a file.

OK, I think this should be and easy one.

Is it posible to initiate a file transfer between two AS/400s uses an FTP
command inside a submitted CL prg? How do I account for the USER ID and
PASSWORD? I'm trying to automate the transfer as much as posible. Currently
we are using the Broderick file transfer programs to send the files and it
seems to be working just fine. We also need to submit a job on the remote
system after the file is sent. is there a command for that as well? I just
thought it would be nice to utilize the speed of our TCP/IP connection between
the two systems. Does anyone have some working samples they would like to
share?
