Concerning your point 6), there are (were?) known problems using CLIENT32.
I don't know if this is still the cass, but go to
<http://www.as400.ibm.com.clientaccess> . There you can get to a large
number of info APARs, addressing many issues, including compatibility
issues. There are documents listing tested hardware and software
compatibilities. I won't promise that it'll answer all your concerns, but
it may hit some of them.
