We use Fax * Star by Sepe, Inc.  It has all the features that we need.  And although I haven't ever tried using it from the PC side of our network, I don't think there would be any problem in doing so.  The Fax * Star system is setup like any other printer on the /400 and uses commands embedded into your print request to process your faxing needs.  You just insert the faxing options you want to use into your document and send it to the Fax * Star's OUTQ; so, it should work no matter where the print originates.
