  Well, 

        The "RIGHT" way is via the loop back option of the DSU/CSU that is
 being provisioned for the circuit.  That is a digital circuit has to 
have a Data Service Unit/Channel Service Unit, and they should be able to 
do a full remote loopback from ether end. Your provider should also be 
doing local loop provisoning testing by looping from the POP to your site 
as part of the installation.   

        The actual hardware that attaches to the DSU/CSU from the device 
is normally a standard V.35 male connection.  Also, the DSU/CSU connects 
to the circuit with an RJ-45 (8 Pin) which normally uses 1-2 / 7-8, but 
check the DSU/CSU manual for specific pin out.
