Per the original announcement of V3R6 back on June 6 1995 (announcement
letter 295-250 IBM OS/400 Version 3 Release 6 supports PowerPC
Technology), end of service is October 31 1998.

Also your understanding of V3R6 not being certified for Y2K is correct.
Having a RISC based system, you will want to move to V4Rx (V3R7 is Y2K
certified, but has a planned end of service of June 30 1999).
