Don't stop with V3R1, go directly to V3R2. You will be paying for V3
anyway, so you may as well get the latest version.

As far as the communications go, you could still even hook up a 5251-12
controller on the AS/400 and get it working (as long as the 5251-12
still works), so it should work fine with the V2 machines.
