imo msgid are very powerful, because you can change the msgid content (the

constant) on-the-fly (without compile the dspf).

in our applications we've an utility that automatically changes all the
constants in dspf-dds for msgids, saving duplicates and so on. not too
easy, not full 100% but works great and automatic.

because we use a case tool to generate (and re-generate obviously)
programs, i only need to repeat the auto convert for retrieving all old
constants and create the news.

this way is very easily change between several languages only putting the
library with the required msgid the first in *libl.

the end users don't perceive any performance delay.
