Eric:

The BBS is an NT system with 8 incoming ASYNC modems. Customers dial in and
upload files that contain orders for my customer to ship from their public
warehouse. We can get up to 300 files a day.

Even though we knew of X/Zmodem programs that run on the 400 (we use
trailblazers' package for the outbound), we went with BBS for a number of
reasons:

1-Cost of 8 incoming lines on AS/400 more than WinNT Digiboard
2-Customers more familiar with BBS mailbox format than custom AS/400 zmodem
receives
3-Custom Paradox program on WinNT rejects files before they get to 400 if there
are errors with data

Paradox program than uploads file to 400 using IPCS. My RPG program plucks
files
off of the IPCS and processes them, prints orders, 128 labels, etc. When order
is complete, we use Trailblazer Zmodem package to send file out to EDI VAN.

BTW, this is a Public warehouse for mostly Garments on Hangers or in Cartons.
