We are converting to a RISC machine at the end of the month and I am curious
on any opinions on the value of IBM's SYSTRAN Offering for assisting with the
upgrade.

Specifically, for those shops large enough/busy enough (or whatever) to have
a full-time experienced AS/400 systems administrator (and one who plans to
follow the road map to the letter!), how much benefit is gained by having IBM
perform (or assist) the upgrade? It seems most of the steps they list in
their contract are items I'm already familiar with (save/restore, config, O/S
install, etc). As long as the road map details the new steps (translation,
etc), is it worth the $$$ IBM asks?

I'm having a hard time justifying having my company paying both my salary
*plus* paying IBM for this service since I know I've done many of these tasks
at previous jobs or during disaster recovery tests.

But I also don't want any significant chance of failure at cutover weekend.

Public or private responses are welcome.
