We keep track of library sizes and % disk space, for the most part. In most of these areas, we seem to be rather a reactive than proactive shop. We, as others, have benefited from the stability of the AS/400, but I don't know how long we can take the attitude of 'I don't worry about the 400's, it's the network servers we need to manage.' (Current issues where I work, as I've seen it)

I worked at another company that had half a dozen 400, as well as a large unix installation. I saw lots of uptime/downtime charts, etc., for the unix systems, none that I could see on the 400s.

Of course, those that need the analysis most, get it. We've not had a 400 unintentionally down for over 1-1/2 years. What PC-based server (unix, novell, or nt) can say that? However, maybe we need to demonstrate in tangible ways the glories of the 400 platform. Management needs pretty pictures, I've been told. Do we do ourselves a disservice in this diverse environment, by coasting, as it were?

A question: most of the disk usage tools, including ANZDSKSPC or whatever it's called, don't do very well with IFS storage. There are tools for Windows that can show directory trees and usage, etc., but most of them take forever when used on a 400. Do any of you know of effective tools for analyzing all the AS/400 disk space?

Cheers
