  • Subject: Fire Extinquisher for the Computer Room

Hope there's an answer for this.

Our Halon fire extinquisher from the computer room went to be recharged and
never came
back. I talked to maintenence yesterday and they say halon is now illegal and
the
extinquisher could not be recharged. They brought us up a CO2 one for now. I
also was
told the old overhead sprinkler that I thought was disconnected was not.

I feel there must be some replacment for halon. What should we be using now
halon is not
available? I am having horrors of a small fire in the computer room and the
AS400 being
turned into a piece of junk from CO2 or water just as surely as if it was
burned up. What
type of extinquisher should we be using? I don't trust our maintenence
department to come
up with the correct answer.

This also made me think of disaster recovery (I know, I should have been
thinking of it
before). Do any of you have contracts with a company that will provide an
alternate site
if a disaster happens to your AS400. Or will bring one to your site? What
companies can I
check into?

Thanks for any information you can give me.
