Are you talking about different modem types?  or... what do you mean by
"asynchronous or synchronous"  what would the difference be?  What does
the emulator do differently in sync vs. async?

I've used perhaps 6 different emulation programs, but I've never heard of
this before, except as it relates to async vs sync modems.
